Who are we?
FDEMC is a tertiary referring center for diabetes, endocrine and metabolism in Basrah (Southern Iraq) that was established in April 2003.
The main diseases seen are diabetes of all types, hypoglycemic disorders, dyslipidaemias, obesity, diseases of thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands, polyuria-polydipsia syndrome, disorders of sex differentiation (DSD), hypogonadism, hyperandrogenism, female and male reproduction disorders, bone health issues like osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease as well as disorders parathyroid glands.
It's trying to adapt the three mission criteria of center of excellence which includes care and support for patients, fellowship training and continuing research in the field of endocrinology.
It’s the only center of postgraduate subspecialty training in diabetes, endocrine and metabolism in southern Iraq.
The Center has thirteen adult endocrinologists, three pediatric endocrinologists, and one chemical pathologist.
The Center situated in Basrah city.
